Solar Roads have been imagined before but few expected it to be a reality anytime soon. It was seen as utopian, up until now that is.
Developed by an aptyly named Dutch company called SolaRoad, the 70m long Bike path is officially the world's first Solar Road. Located in the town of Krommenie, Netherlands, this strip of concrete modules with solar cells covered in tempered glass is designed to be a test route that can convert sunlight into energy, enough to power street lights and even small households. Such a sustainable innovation puts Netherlands on the map as a leader in this field.
With testing set to continue for another 3 years I eagerly look forward to the world's first Solar Highway.
