Seeing as I have a
huge habit of going out and trying new places, my desire to visit newly opened
Chincherry restaurant located at the food court area of the Polo Park Shopping
Mall, doesn’t come as a surprise; plus, it looks pretty cool. Designed and fitted by Arc Munachiso
Okorocha of Silhouettes AB and T Turnkey Limited, a thirteen man team located in
Enugu, Nigeria, this project came with new experiences, being his first
restaurant project, and in a location with central HVAC system.
According to the Architect, the project was African inspired with a color scheme of orange, black and white derived from Chincherry’s existing logo. Clay moulded bricks were used for the walls and the servery, while matte black tile was used for the floor. The walls were combined half way up with white painted P.O.P wall finish, while granite was used for the servery’s counter top. This created a refined African look which was matched with contemporary style checkerboard pattern of orange and black tile on the wall. This formed an interesting focal point in the room.
An innovative direction was taken with the hanging light, which wasn’t originally hanging. He used a fitting commonly used in factories and auditoriums, factory-made to be recessed into the ceiling. To make them hang, a lightweight chain was attached to them with the help of a panel beater. They were sprayed with bright colours to compliment the created scheme and make the space softer, more fun and livelier. Like the architect, this is also my favorite part of the project ~ I really love the lights!
Except for the delay experienced while the client was making a choice from the proposed materials, and delays as a result of the HVAC process, there weren’t any challenges experienced. Plus they didn’t exceed the budget sum of N8million. Hope you enjoyed viewing this project.
Good job Muna!
